If I've never heard any death grips before and I am just now tying to get into them, where should I start?

Honestly I think this album is a pretty good overview of all the sounds they've done so far but Exmilitary would probably be best yeah.

It's best to go chronologically with DG anyway.

Exmilitary as well as their self-titles EP are their most hip hop with the chopped and screwed samples and such. Exmilitary follows the hip hop, but places bugger emphasis on flow and huge hooks on top of more accessible "beats". No Love onward to Niggas on the Moon as very experimental. Jenny Death is very punk/hard rock driven with an odd guitar solo or lead riff appearing here and there. This is the culmination of everything the band has done

Edit: yeah if anything, just go chronologically, but their discog in general has something for everyone if you're open minded enough

if I like 90s hip hop would these guys be worth looking into? Most of the people who recommended DG to me weren't hip hop fans but rather appreciated how unique these guys sound from the rest.

Typhoon, the self-titled and Exmilitary may have something for you, but otherwise you may have to brace yourself for anything other than those two

@Typhoon Exmilitary and Money Store have a few tracks between the two that are slightly reminiscent of more traditional hip hop ("Spread Eagle Cross the Block", "I Want It I Need It", "Get Got", "I've Seen Footage", "Bitch Please") but other then that I don't think you would like these guys very much just based off liking 90s hip hop.

After rereading what I just typed I'm now questioning why I even like these guys lol.

ah I see. I guess ill start with exmilitary then.

it doesn't have to sound like 90s hip hop, I just like good rapping. like the lyrics and delivery have to be well-timed and clever. beats im a lot more flexible with

Imo The Money Store is the most hip hop thing they have done (as well as the most poppy/catchy), Exmilitary is abrasive as fuck at points.
