any specific tracks you'd recommend?
on second thought, upon a quick scan of your ratings, it doesn't seem like you're really chugging along on that slow-moving Grimes steam engine. any recommendations for similar artists?

"the failure of this website in a nutshell"
While I can see your point I disagree with that assessment. Everyone is free to decide however they want to enjoy (or not enjoy) any kind of art medium.
You CAN dig deeper if you want to, but it sure as hell isn't prerequisite for having an opinion about something or assessing your personal level of appreciation.

Yeah that was a vast overstatement and besides what's the point of meaning if it's not executed in an effective way.

What a bunch of tossers

^ That kind of misses the point, too. There is no "inherent" meaning even if the artist ascribes it such. Art is always a matter of interpretation, obviously more clearly articulated ideas are easier to extract.
"What a bunch of tossers"
I sure hope it's cabers they be tossin'.

"i guess there could, but i don't really care about any of that to be blunt. i just care about it sounding good
the failure of this website in a nutshell"
tbh this is a really elitist thing to say. i have no qualms with people going deeper when discussing music like this, but there's nothing wrong with somebody enjoying this simply because it sounds good to them. when it comes to music, typically the first response we have is whether or not it sounds good, not what subtextual meanings it may hold, and in grimes' case (for me, anyway) all other considerations fell away the first, second, and third times hearing it. it was just blissful, catchy-as-fuck straight-up pop music to me.
for the sake of engaging in the debate though, "why can't it be intentionally annoying/ugly?" i know the point you're making but i think this kind of answers itself. i don't at all find this annoying/ugly personally, but if i did i probably wouldn't be inclined to listen to it (more so if it were annoying, not ugly - i listen to plenty of objectively 'ugly' music, depending on how you define it). don't know how you can argue it's a fault with the listener, not the artist, if said listener is put off by something 'annoying'.

I don't see how that is anyone's "fault" because that concept is inherently unfitting in this case.
It's not like there's some objective standard by which to measure any of those terms.

whats going on guys
how much masturbation going on in here
|

yeah i don't personally see this as annoying, but if it were who the fuck would seriously like it? you're right, it's too subjective anyway - a lot of people find joanna newsom annoying but to me she comes across as endearingly quirky

Imagine taking her out for a meal. Childish prattle would be 'endearing' for all of two minutes before you'd overturn the table and tell her to stop acting a twat.

Sloppy comparison, also - again - subjective measurement of aesthetics and somesuch.

lol, yes. we're essentially on the same page.
I was pecifically referring to comparing music and taking someone out to dinner and talking to them. That's just lopsided as hell.

lol i assumed as much, just wanted to make sure since it seemed like you posted at nearly the same time as him

I actually wonder whether Grimes has made any statements as to what plane is referring to - it doesn't seem improbable but it would be interesting to hear if the artist had a specific thing in mind.
