Because it's generic radio rock with nothing new to add to the genre and completely disregards the progression they made on Sempiternal.

It's radio rock, it's meant to be, but it's just boring hooks that grow tired after the first time of hearing.

They changed their sound on Sempiternal. It was a big improvement. This is changing your sound to boring kerrangcore radio rock.

Oli is one of the worst lyricists I can think of, none of their lyrics are good.

Just because it *might* be truthful doesn't make it a good lyric. I could make a song just saying factual stuff like the sky is blue (sometimes) but that doesn't make it a good lyric.

Lanagan has been using that expression for years, that is all I will say on the matter. If you don't like an album, don't ambush people for doing so. That's just not cool. And don't act like the only people who like this album are the 5 people who created it. But if that's the case, it's them 5 plus ME. So, it's 6 HEHE.

Alongside There Is a Hell..., I feel that Sempiternal was about two or three steps in the right direction for this outfit. While I wouldn't call this a bad record, it's relatively underwhelming and features musical ideas which could've been elaborated on. It also treats the two full-lengths that came before it as afterthoughts when it ought to be the other way around. That's the Spirit could've been worse, and yet it should've been better. A decent (if not desperate) pop rock affair, that's all the offering is, to summarize.



Avalanche is a neat song, by the by.

Based on everything I was going through in my life at the time Sempiternal came out, and based on everything I'm going through now, I can relate more to the lyrics on the new album. I just think they are speaking to the listener on a more persona level. Guess it's subjective, however you want to perceive it.
