Not apparent to me, apart from pop to metal I can hardly think of many bands in jap's mainstream music scene that give any truth to your statement safe the popular cult oldies that have been there since the 90's. Like Tqt/Baseline said bluring the lines between genres doesn't equal to playing less trending genres or even experimenting since there is the possibility of using a genre through another as a (possibly really fun) gimmick wich often happens in any country. I got no proof that japan is open minded in the slightest with it's big music market as of now and I'm open to be handed out a folly of examples
