Album is definitely better than Heritage, but still doesn't touch anything pre Watershed.

Definitely not as good as Heritage.

Most of these songs manage to make sense as songs though.

Moon above is amazing, definitely my favorite. Goblin is up there too. The end of River is probably the best single section on the album. Rains is great. Voice is good. Faith and Cusp are okay. Elysian isn't bad but it's kinda just there.

Voice isn't as amazing as everyone makes it out to be but still probably top 5

He probably meant because Heritage is really meandering and all over the place while this is a little more focused and streamlined

Most definitely what he was getting at.

I mean that Heritage had zero sense of structure in its songwriting. It felt like a haphazard arts and crafts project.

Yeah Heritage's definitely not for everyone but I ended up enjoying a lot of it, took me over a year to accept it though

That's why I dislike Moon Above. The acoustic sections are so forced.

Nah, the contribute literally nothing to the song. The track would've been infinitely better if it had just stuck to doing one or two things, not five.

Right, as a heritage comparison I see what you meant. Heritage was just a completely different recording process. Truly sounded like dudes finding a new stride, trying something different. Glad they did since this album was a result

I love how disjointed it is, keeps you guessing even after multiple listens.

Yeah they struck a nice balance with the prog worship and keeping their own style, hopefully the next one'll be even more original

The disjointedness isn't actually bad but there are just tiny, scattered moments that end up ruining the entire song
