With that in mind I can see what you're saying yeah I just read through the lyrics again, still dunno if it has any religious meaning though

every anberlin song is about religion so

@tommy
"you make breaking hearts look so easy"
"boys speak in rhythm, and girls in code / doo doo doo dooo"
lol
@Rowan, yeah it might not be religious at all. I have a feeling it is. But I don't know what else velvet connotes. Maybe upper class, but that doesn't fit the rest of the lyrics so it's probably not that. Maybe it's just a lyrical embellishment

"John Maxwell states that a velvet covered brick is “a leader (parent) that makes difficult decisions, but at the same time, acts as an emotional caretaker to the people their choices affect. The instill discipline, but they also provide encouragement and inspiration.”"
That's pretty interesting. Velvet = soft, e.g. encouraging, inspiring, having best intentions. Brick = hard truth

sweeping generalisation tom (sweeping m/)
@tox maybe he just liked the image of a brick covered in velvet, who knows? I think its pretty cool. anyway being the Anberlin god that you are, considering I've never heard Vital, should I listen to it or just skip and listen to Devotion instead because it has all the songs?

@Rowan,
I posted above (first post on this page), but yeah it's an actual thing.
Re: Devotion, you know it depends. I do love the additions onto Devotion from Vital. Pretty much all of them are great. So it depends on how much you value album flow. I personally found Vital to flow better, but I'm also a fan of shorter albums as a whole (44 minutes versus Devotion's 72). I'd say listen to Vital once and Devotion after, but you can honestly get by with just listening to Devotion. Totally up to you

Yeah sorry when I made my comment didn't see that post up there, interesting concept for sure
Hmm see not sure if I have time tonight to listen to Vital AND THEN Devotion cos that's like two hours overall so I'd have to go with one or the other. Might just stick with Devotion because I'm not missing anything that way

oh yeah, definitely no need to listen to both in one sitting. i meant listen to vital and then at another point in time listen to devotion, so you can judge both.

Yeah might do that honestly it feels weird having both on my iPod though so many duplicate songs

just have devotion on your ipod, and create a "vital" playlist in case you ever feel like listening to vital haha

Not a bad idea actually for some reason I've never used the playlist function on my iPod though I just don't use them

This record still rules. Dissenter kicks so much ass, such a different side of them.

@Mongi Would you say that Dissenter has some strong industrial undertones?

I guess so. All I know is that I enjoy the vocals and the distortion.
