Idk, man. This is quite high in their discog. And the closer is a tear-jerking bliss-train.

I jammed this a lot when it came out. Loved the moody atmosphere

This is better than I remembered it being, and I already liked it quite a bit. The Lost Song Part 2's been one of my favourite Anathema tracks since I saw them play it a few years ago, but I never realised how much I loved Anathema, Dusk, Ariel...

This has grown to be my favorite anathema. I think its unfairly thrown into the prior twos' shadows due to similarities. Songs are so good and consistent though.

Prob my favorite, as well. So many good albums with them, though.

Then again... maybe it's The Optimists (also doesn't get the respect it deserves)... or Weather Systems.

I like both. A lot of The Optimists' songs feel incomplete to me, though, and Weather Systems has killer songs but the rapid switch halfway into it for more experimental songs isnt handled as well there as it is here imo.

Valid opinion, but I must disagree. That vibe you get from The Optimist being incomplete actually gives me a sense of spaciousness. It's a masterful album.

Valid opinion, but I must disagree. The Optimist has a lot of songs that feel like sketches, and not fully fleshed out somehow. So I agree with Observer :-D
I think Weather Systems is Anathema at its emotional best, and is my favourite abum of theirs. I haven't listened to this one in a while, but I recall not enjoying it as much as the two before it. Still a good album though

Weather systems is a joy. I think I 5'd everything from We're Here to The Optimist, actually. Each one is a jewel.

And The Optimist is not yet understood. It's perfect.

I'm sure I agree with Omair here, but this one grew on me so much I'm starting to think it might be the same with The Optimist. I'mma give it a spin today to see.
We're Here Because We're Here will probs always be my favourite Anathema, though. That uplift *and* the nostalgia just make it a really powerful listen for me.

I never fully enjoyed the post 2001 Anathema, partly because their lyrics went so flat. I think the bitterness of Judgement is incomparable. But, that's just me! I have to revisit those last 4-5 albums, they are a great band. Btw, A Fine Day to Exit is a very good effort, often overlooked by many.

I'm not really a lyrics guy, but were Anathema's lyrics ever really a strong point? I feel like they switched from depression to optimism, but otherwise the quality of tje lyrics is more or less the same.
A Fine Day to Exit is good btw. Underrated for sure

when I think of Anathema lyrics Panic, A Natural Disaster and Internal Landscapes are the first three that come to mind - none of them are exactly amazing but they're all engaging and heartfelt in their imagery ig
