Two comments into an English conversation and I'm lost at a sea inside of a dense forest.

It's a friendly forest bro.
The elves welcome you with open arms but by Christ their miserable fuckers.

Lol I love Bowie but that cover art for the Next Day is fucking cringe-worthy
They've learnt from zak well apparently
|
| |
Sorry bro I know we disagree on nearly everything but that Bowie cover is outstanding!
Just a blatant 'have some of that' it's classic.

We just can't ever find common ground can we? I know Bowie was going for the whole mysterious vibe while recording that album which he pulled off pretty well but it just looks like a total cop-out on the cover
At least we can both agree the album is a banger though

Which album cover are we talking about? I'll break the tie.

David Bowie - The Next Day
as compared to the classic cover of "Heroes" by the selfsame artist
|

Ah, yes. I see Rowan's point. It does seem somewhat lazy and almost a shell of his former self. However, Zak is also valid in saying that it emanates an overall Idontgiveafuck feel which is the essence of Bowie. Alas, this is a more difficult decision than I had previously anticipated. I cannot in good conscience break the fierce tie. I apologize, fellas.

Oh yeah I shudder to think where we'd be without him

I have a feeling the new could possibly be better than this, especially since reading that it's going to be predominantly instrumental.

See the predominantly instrumental part is what's worrying me considering Gilmour's voice is the best part of this for me
|
| |
next day art rules wtf
|
| |
Well the worst thing about this album is the song writing which is why I feel the new album would benefit greatly from being less song-based. Some occasional Gilmour vocals would be nice though as long as they're within a more spacious, instrumental-based context.

Song-writing in what sense? Cos the melodies on here are gorgeous top to bottom
also sweet new avatar zak m/ m/ m/
|

In the sense that the whole thing besides High Hopes is entirely forgettable. Gilmour's never been a great song writer (despite a couple of rwell-written songs) which is why Floyd without Waters will never be anywhere near Floyd with Waters.

MAYBE YOU JUST NEED TO LISTEN MORE JAMIE

I mean like Waters is obviously the superior lyricist but most of the best melodies were Gilmour's
He wrote the chorus to Comfortably Numb which is far superior to anything that Waters wrote (musically not lyrically)
so like I don't agree sorry
|
| |
That's ok, I didn't expect you to agree.
Gilmour and Waters were obviously at their best together, a whole album's worth of Gilmour's song writing is just too bland.
