i had something written out but it was formatted horribly, basically all i gotta say is i can understand why skeames enjoys masked dancers more than this because the songwriting is a lot more traceable/direct and hard hitting with it's moments. similar to how animal collective's spirit they've gone, spirit they've vanished was written - easy to follow but so interactive and emotional when it needed to be. then they went off after that kinda cracking the egg open as far as their writing was concerned and experimented a lot more/creating more intricacy within their sound.

difference between this album and masked dancers is they became such outstanding musicians in such a brief period of time that they were able to tune in to their audience in what they wanted to express a lot more easier than animal collective did. danse and here comes the indian turn a lot of people off immediately. this has a lot more instant appeal. i feel as though this is undoubtedly the better album, just showcases everything the genre should strive to put out without any boring or confusing songs.

Ethics nailed why I like Masked Dancers better. Honestly, a lot of it is easier to listen to than JGBFtD. The hooks aren't obscured because there's just less to the music than there is in this album. The things I like about this band (dynamic tempo shifts, desperate energy, emotion) are more aligned with the strengths of Masked Dancers.

I still fucking love this album, though, for all the reasons you mentioned.
