I saw the Chariot just after they lost their bass player last year, that dude was nuts. I wish I could catch one of their farewell shows. The energy wasn't there that night, nor was the sound for them or Every Time I Die(my first time seeing them as well). Yeah, way way more tame than I hoped for

watch literally any interview of the band members and you'll immediately get a sense that they are about as down to earth and genuine as people get. Sure, the song name themes are very different, but that's been their thing on every record. I would normally agree that the concepts are pretentious, but they've never made grandiose statements about them or tried to be anything more than a hardcore band that just wants to have fun and show people a good time live.

and Cheek is one of the most emotional tracks they've ever put out. Is it still pretentious if it's effective?

"tried to be anything more than a hardcore band that just wants to have fun and show people a good time live." that is true for most of the songs yes but how do those three tracks i brought up fit into that category at all
