I read your comment about the No Count For Old Men reference patrick and my brain exploded. So true. "You stand to win everything." Oh my gosh that's like my favorite movie, too. I really hope that was intentional on Dustin's part.

I love the last two songs, but the rest of the album isn't treating me terribly well at the moment. I have a feeling my rating will go up, though.

Julian, that is the exact line that snapped it into perspective and reminded me of Chigur; "You stand to win everything." Also, Dustin mentions darkness approaching, hence the urgency of calling it, and in that same scene in No Country Chigur asks the man what time he closes his store and what time he goes to bed. Just very similar in odd ways, and I really hope it was intentional as well.

that justifies a 3?

Why wouldn't it? If I thought most of the album is average, and the last two songs are very good. However, I'm listening to it another time and it's already growing

yeah that's a 2.5 in my books

I always give it the boost if there are a few songs that make an impression on me, and the others aren't bad; if I find it average I won't really remember any highlights

Another huge line that makes that connection is "You've been putting it up your whole life." I listened to that song today with this perspective and it makes it easily twice as good. Even if it wasn't intentional I'm just choosing to listen to it that way from here on lol

album flows easily but misses the standout tracks
words in water and anthology are maybe the best here

Anthology is a stand out track if I ever heard one. I was afraid that it was being over-hyped until I heard the whole album and it was like "oh... this was under-hyped..." I love how Thrice ends their albums with the second to last song being crazy epic(except for Beggars). So Strange I Remember You (coupled with To Awake and Avenge the Dead before it) into Beltsville Crucible, Abolition of Man into Don't Tell and We Won't Ask, Stand and Feel Your Worth into Red Sky and now Anthology into Disarmed. So good.

Come All You Weary into Child of Dust was awesome too, and Earth was my least favorite of the Alchemy Indexes.
