it's just an incredibly inconsistent album (Space Oddity and Man are kinda the same so it's not like it was isolated to this album)
Quicksand and Queen Bitch are some of his best, Pretty Things/Mars/Bewlay Brothers are all flawed but still super enjoyable, the rest is somewhere between filler and outright embarrassingly terrible
either I'm listening to this wrong or everyone has nostalgia goggles on, I'm honestly not sure which

The album definitely gets stronger as it goes on, the early tracks were not a happy welcoming, the two Qs are amongst my favourites as well actually.
I haven’t checked the two previous albums but I’m in the middle of a (currently) 7 album binge & have already heard them all at least twice. Maybe I should’ve gone in order or something, ah well.
