Zak - please tell me you dig other Elliott Smith, 90s legend. Went to watch him at the Astoria in ‘98
This album is a low 3.5 rating for me though

Never sunk his claws in mate. Bit too coffee shop dribbling for me but I’m probably wrong.

Yeah zak this has a bit of a coffee shop vibe (though that's a vibe I can vibe with on occasion). I guess I don't currently feel any particular uniqueness to the songwriting except for the t/t I guess. The general sound here is much breezier than I expected.

Zak, you’re definitely wrong on this one, only acoustic artist worth a shit from the 90s
More real deal than Gav Clark for me - there, I said it
Bloke lived it, and 100% a musical genius

For me he’s the closest to a Nick Drake of the 90s
But more than that he’s the Nick Drake you actually want to listen to a lot more often, a bit more romance to his work.
Qualifies as a top 30 artist of all time for me but whatever.

It's very unassuming which is probably why it didn't grab me at first...but after a couple weeks of spins it has definitely put in some hooks.

it's very unassuming but elliott's guitar parts are leaps and bounds ahead of most of 99% of this genre. so difficult

Sort of like with pavement or something or other, I always think of my experience being like 13 years old and inevitably experiencing the imperceptible slide from “this is a good song” to “this is a great song”. I think that somehow ties to the “unsssuming” quality...

I think it’s hard with a style like this too - on the surface at least it’s been done a million times and so it’s unlikely to strike you right from the start. This is why I always try to take my time with stuff. Recently I’ve taken to waiting a lot longer before I rate things because 1) I’m becoming a bit disillusioned with ratings in general and 2) even though I know I can change my ratings I find I’m more likely to set my opinion on or stop returning to something if I’ve already given it a score.
