The reason I didnt like Avenged basically is because they were born in the emo era, and they look and sound kind of emo, but with portnoy drumming with them it seems like they are a more mature band

i really liked the album. there were some weak parts, not as strong as previous albums. However, just listening to "So Far Away" makes me want to give this a higher rating..

Though I could be one to be picky about this album, I have to say seeing them live on this last tour changed my attitude towards A7X. Most of their early stuff annoyed me. This album, however, became a favorite of mine once I heard Fiction. Then seeing Fiction live blew me away. Having the recorded section with The Rev singing while the spot light shined on a piano and mic was amazing. The Rev dying made the band mature. RIP Rev.

I saw them live, they were alright at best.



The album is a step up from what they normally do, but they wouldn't be so bad if so many fans didn't claim so many titles on them. Like "best guitarists ever" for example, someone told me they were so good because they used a "slashed chord" (in his words) once...uhhhhmmmm not difficult, most bands do it, it's used in country... It just puts this "oh...so what I should be hearing is really awesome guitar work, and really creative riffs and all I hear is mediocrity by comparison"



On top of that the singer is kinda lame, but I won't allow that opinion to affect the rating, as I like a lot of bands with similar singers, and even worse singers.



This is why I might bump my rating, because it is, as it stands, influenced by fanboy logic, which makes me hate the band. But listening to them without the best ever title they don't deserve, I see them as a band I kind of enjoy.



Good luck though, cuz whenever anyone who bought they cd puts it in a cd player, they gloat over how amazing they are, especially at the "maybe slightly above average?" parts.
