this review talking about how the national have grown and matured since the first album reminded me of the progression of brand new. brand new started off as another average punk-pop band, and with each album slowly grew into something much more unique and creative. they abandoned their cheap lyrics about ex-girlfriends and went on to express religious doubts, fear of death, and self-deprecation. they abandoned their simple power chords and fuzzy distortion and moved onto more layered and complex music. the national have made a change similar to this over the years. bands like these where they continue to push and expand their musical abilities always astound and inspire me.

I was at a dance the other night and they played Conversation 16. It was surreal.

I've decided it's a four. I was hoping for more. Maybe it'll still grow...

i think the reason i love lemonworld so much is that it sounds like something that would be on boxer, which is obviously the better album here

i really like lemonworld as well, but never thought of it like something off boxer. bloodbuzz ohio sounds like a boxer song though.

After giving this a lot more listens, I feel like I can really say what holds it back from a classic rating. Anyone's Ghost. I fucking hate that song. All the others are amazing to though.
