Bon Iver's vocals are at least more melodic. This is rather a bit dissonant in a way, which is weird for folkish stuff.

I feel like this was recorded with $20 microphones from Target. Not that it's a bad thing.

Sounds Bob Dylan-ish. I can totally see why you would intentionally record music like this.

uh perhaps you're looking for a different word, nothing dissonant about the music or vox at all

he never went for the heartstrings or tried to emphasize with all those messy emotions of the listener

pretty sure you mean empathize here.

the vocals aren't dissonant, although his timbre could be jarring to some people

the production on this and shallow grave add so much to the listening experience. the crackles and pops in the recordings gives it some of the warmth you get with vinyl, it's cool.

"Dylan, as damn good as he is, never got that wide-ranging in his early days; he never went for the heartstrings or tried to emphasize with all those messy emotions of the listener – perhaps only because he didn’t give a shit."

Wow, are you kidding me? Have you listened to...?

- One Too Many Mornings
- Boots Of Spanish Leather
- Mama, You Been On My Mind

...just to name a few "heartstrings" targeted "early" Dylan songs.

I don't like folk & this even made my top 20 for 2010.

I really don't get the appeal of this. I suppose the vocals are ok (though it sounds like he is trying to sound like Dylan) and the production is ok, but I just don't find the music that interesting.
