So many artists were in some way very influenced by Sex Pistols like Joy Division, Megadeth, Nirvana/Foo Fighters it's a moot point to try to deny it

Mort that literally happens to every artist who has some message that contradicts mainstream thought and all of a sudden becomes extremely popular.

whos trying to deny it?

well yeah tvc thats my point. it loses any of its bite once it reaches the mainstream. the whole point is that this really isnt that "punk" to me, its really quite unconfrontational and safe which is the very reason why its become popular and taken into the mainstream

gonna need some sources on that, most of them were influenced by punk in general not just one specific group

A band being influential means fuck all anyway, i dont even like megadeth, nirvana or the foo fighters particularly so why does it matter this band influenced them? To me its like saying "hey this band you dont care about influenced a bunch of other bands you dont care about"

that is ridiculous Sinternet, being as most punk bands were influenced by the pistols, or ramones it would stand to reason that most bands influenced by punk were in some ways influenced by the pistols

But if they werent directly influnced by the pistols its sort of a redundant point

Because if you go "oh but they were influenced by punk bands influenced by the pistols" then why dont you say they were influenced by the bands that influenced the pistols and keep just going back and back and back through influences?

who influenced the pistols, the stooges, MC5, I think most people would agree that punk bands and metal bands were influenced by the whole stream of late 60's heavy rock, or prepunk I guess,

but most people mention the pistols because they turned a corner, and although influenced were so different from most others that it seemed so new and different

they weren't different at all, they just made a name for themselves, there were many bands at the same time doing the same thing, it's much better to say so-and-so was influenced by a movement rather than a specific group who represented that movement, because if it was only the one group it wouldn't be a movement, sex pistols didn't invent punk you know

Cobain said growing up he was transfixed by pics of the pistols. Their look offered up something that hadn't been done before.

NWA or more specifically Dr Dre has made mention of the Pistols and how they seemed to come out of the blocks on the attack influenced how NWA wanted to grab people by the throat.

The Pistols themselves did have musical influences but their driving goal was changing the established order. They actually succeeded in doing it.

Sinternet, they were different, although other punk bands were cropping up at the same time or earlier, some members were in bands before the band was formed, they did have a difference in sound and attitude, I would say the Damned is the quintessential punk band, but for some reason the Pistols stuck with everybody, for good or bad, I am not arguing that they were good by any means, but they were notorious beyond themselves, and people liked that

Mort. The bands of old. Beatles, Floyd, Zeppelin along with the pomposity of prog were consigned to the annuals of rock history. The Pistols wrote a new chapter and were a massive part in changing the new musical direction and tuning people in to 'forgotten' bands like The Stooges.

Art. Go and jam some Rush dude, people with rock n roll in their bones are talking.

Pistols were huge within society, my grandad was in the prog crowd with my uncle and he said the punk scene literally came outta nowhere.

I'm only messin dude. It's the whole 'it's just noise' argument. Indeed but 'the noise' is magnificent and revolutionary and gets the hairs on your neck stood on end because it says something and it means it.
