yes their debut is geared toward overweight fellas who wear t-shirts with grease stains and blown-out neck openings to display their collection of fat-fold skin tags and those black single-strap adidas sandals with their toes encroaching the front edge and their remarkably discolored and geode-looking heel callus visible from outer space because 'foot care is for f*ggots'

but it's a p good album tbh

as a lifelong southeast Michigan resident, those sandals are a rite of passage around here

'foot care is for f*ggots'

I blame Covid for experiencing cracked heels for the first time in my life, wfh wearing no shoes or flip flops - didn't imagine this was something that would befall Shuggers and the crustier variety of metalhead

really only applies to insufferable neckbeard metal; their heels do not have the structural integrity to support the massive amount of weight with which they're burdened on a constant basis esp. between all those trips from the basement lair to the fridge and back

don't get that many neckbeard metalheads in these parts though they must have grouped somewhere in the UK, maybe some place like Nottingham?

how does this translate to the emaciated pallid straggleboi neckfuzz subgenus of that species? had never considered their feet in any particular detail until now, but those bony sparkstriking ankles have got to have something to keep em upright

less agro-eroded heel, more kitana-sharp toenails

One thing that doesn't help this is how samey it can feel over the rather generous runtime. It is very much a 'vibe' album and the nondescript dreaminess and simplicity help this, yet I feel like I've heard most of what this album offers by the halfway point. I guess when 3 of the first 4 tracks (1/3/4) are your faves, that's certainly more likely to happen.

Regardless of this, I do still like it a fair amount.

This is their least “vibe” album tbh. Not samey at all if you pay attention to the songwriting and storytelling.

I've just had enough by the time the later tracks start, proper switched off. I think the strength of the early material actually harms the flow (weirdly), the individual cuts are distinct in that I recognise them as separate songs, but because the style is similar throughout I soon become tired of the latter (less good) material. It certainly isn't a 'vibe' type album in the sense an ambient piece would be. Maybe it's just a case of not wanting 48 mins of this 'sound' or something idk.

I'm not explaining this very well.

to be fair, Beach House's entire catalog is kinda "vibe-y/same-y", it's sorta their thing.

this isn't a "vibe-y" album. not to the extent that it's one of the main defining aspects of its sound anyway. the songwriting is concise and direct here

Yeah well the song-writing was concise, direct and engaging until later on when it became concise, direct and not engaging

but like I might notice less if their sound wasn’t so homogenous

something like that
