It saddens me that the only song a lot of people know from Modest Mouse is god damn Float On

Which isn't a bad song but still

yeah float on and ocean breathes are both great songs cant hate that a lot of people start and sometimes finish there, though obviously they are missing out, first 4 mm albums are all fantastic

Actually I think it's for the best that they didn't get huge with like Lonesome Crowded West... Though that one really doesn't have any songs I'd consider "radio friendly"

Maybe Trailer Trash and Heart Cooks Brain but other than that nah

yeah good news in general was their most accessible album at the time of its release for sure, which might influence is lesser rating here but it's great regardless of a more pop sound at times (if you can even go as far to say call it "pop-y", i'm not so sure)

It definitely had more of a pop influence, but I wouldn't really consider it a pop album.

It's still well within the confines of indie rock

yeah that album definitely had more of a sell-out feel than this, which didnt at all in my opinion regardless of the successful singles, it still felt original and true

I honestly haven't listened to it all the way through. I will today and let you know how I fully feel. I do remember not being super impressed with the few I've heard

with We Were Dead, I found that all the B-sides like King Rat were a lot better than most of the album. The album is still enjoyable, but unlike this it's a step-down, whilst this is just a stylistic change that they pulled off very convincingly.

We Were Dead definitely deserves a 3.8 average on here at least imo. It has just as much filler as this album.

Heard The View on the way home today and decided to jam this. Incredibly refreshing.

But the good songs on here are much better than the good songs on there tbh
