I really don't know what the hell I am missing here, but I can't help the feeling that this is extremely overrated.

This is one of the most monumental achievements for modern music man. It's literally the sound of isolation and it's super chilling. Try to think of the album's context too. Nothing else like it.

Which doesn't inevitably make it a perfect listen, if he isn't looking for that.

Well I certainly respect it in terms of context, but isolating it from the year it belongs and the context of the musical scene, it just doesn't click for me, I really dig half of the songs, with Everything in its Right Place being one of Radiohead's best songs imo, but the other half just feels like a mess for me. I think I have to give it another try though.

If you fail to be moved by How to Disappear Completley than you are a twisted sociopath with no hope, soul or most importantly taste.

Always found that one to be overrated. Sociopath, I guess.

Well that's just one of many reasons. I can't think of many other albums that capture insane isolation as much as this. Idioteque and HTDC say it all basically.

You and many many others man. I just disagree completely.

Kris you Loon. It's your taste I worry about pal.

Actually I never thought of it as isolation all that much. It just paints a very distopian picture at times, mostly the t/t and Idioteque. Something robotic, endlessly creepy and unsettling.
Also my taste is obviously vastly superior to yours, zak, you just can't see it yet.

How to Disappear Completely is the epitome of isolation.

Isolated, robotic, Apocalyptic, anxious, distance, depression. This paints all these pictures for me. It's sound is simply astounding to me.

Try and erase from your mind every musical release from 2000 onward that you've heard.
Now think of every musical release that you have heard prior to 2000 and take all that excites you about them. All the intricacies, invention, musical prowess, connotations of genre and appeal for all them releases including OKC which was a revelation upon its release.
Now listen to this and try and get you're head round how much of a mind fuck it was. i.e it was a bit shit.
