Review in Hammer Smashed Sound says it's good. I really hope he got the mixing right on that one bc Social Disservices was similarly black metal-themed but some awkward studio decisions really affected it negatively.

Lunn does not even attempt a mediocre fusion which ultimately would get shot down, much like the laughable attempts made by every folk metal band in existence.

The Death of Baldr and the Coming War is in my opinion, the best song Panopticon has ever done. It really stands on its own as perfect. The vocals, riffs and drumming are all incredible. The 180 degree turn into a charming folk foot-stomper is truly perfect. The rest of the album doesn't live up as well but what a song it is.

Listening to this for the first time in awhile and it still blows my mind. I remember when it first came out and how shocked everyone was by not just the bluegrass bits, but how well they fit in the context of a black metal record. We’re all so used to the Panopticon schtick nowadays, but a decade ago this destroyed expectations.

Take up arms brothers and sisters,
now is the time to make the streets ours.
As we've tried for years to find freedom
we call it the struggle, they call it crime.
