Also, this album was in my car from release day until I didn't have that car anymore. Had some serious vibes. Enough so that I gave ABL way too many chances. I will say, though, that T/T on A Beautiful Lie was really strong.

This album is really fucking good. It's such a shame that all of their following albums have strayed further and further away from this sound. They've gotten progressively worse with each release. I do like A Beautiful Lie and This Is War had some decent stuff on it but beyond that... America was absolutely terrible. The only halfway decent song on the entire record was the one that wasn't even sung by Jared.

I don't think there's a more clear cut case of a band getting worse and worse with each subsequent album that they release. This album was fantastic, A Beautiful Lie was great, This Is War was decent, Love Lust Faith + Dreams was a mixed bag, and America was just terrible.

It's incredibly obvious that Leto was just chasing the mainstream at this point. Their evolution can be perfectly traced along whatever was considered mainstream at the time of each release. I have no doubt that we would have heard a grunge debut had they started a few years earlier. It's a bummer because Leto has an amazing voice and they were actually good at writing rock. Their past few albums have just been such a wank fest with incredibly repetitive themes. We get it Jared, LA is the city of dreams and the world is broken. No amount of choir vocals or call and response sections are going to solve world hunger no matter how much you want to cosplay as jesus.

Agreed. I wasn't very fond of the direction they took with A Beautiful Lie, even though that was an ok album. I would've loved to see them continue with the musical and lyrical style and themes of their debut.

Still though, I do enjoy some of their newer songs like Up In The Air and Hurricane
