The most importent death metal album is obviously Scream Bloody Gore. After all, it was the first.
This is super fucking old but better help clear misinformation
Actually Possessed released a Death Metal album before Death did, but Death released a series of demos that were very much dm prototypes, so yeah

SBG was the first true dm album, it established everything even beyond the music (which it pretty much laid the groundwork for; Seven Churches was very early DM, but it lacked the slow-fast sections that Death brought to the table with this and Leprosy, and was much thrashier and not as pure as this), especially the gorey themes and dat album cover which is pretty much classic 80s DM imagery
|
| |
Well, SBG defined dm more than pretty much any other dm, or Death, album, i'm just saying that it wasn't the first dm, technically speaking
Still, Death was the father of dm, that's no question

technically Beethoven released the first dm

technically yeah you're right. but this was still the first "pure" death metal album i think
and my friend and I were talking about this the other day. How many other bands are so damn legendary that they have an entire genre named after them? i can't think of any. truly one of the all time greats.
...i say in a morbid angel thread

Death invented music.
So no.
