it's a gorgeous movie (artwise and soundtrackwise) but the plot's definitely a bit iffy and very unconventional. there's a really nice theme developed throughout though.
it's meant to be more of an art indulgence rather than a plot indulgence. also, it's really short (~45 minutes) so it would be a quick watch.

haha, yep. it's probably my favourite animated movie. prior to seeing it, I had no idea cartoons could look that great. Garden of Words was definitely a nice surprise since it surpassed 5 Cm/s in art quality

watched Lain but did not understand one bit of it - seems like one of those shows which require rewatches + full attention to detail + fan theories and stuff
I also watched ~10 episodes of Ghost in the Shell but couldn't get behind the episodic nature too much (despite the fact that I do like some anime in the same vein)

they both left me feeling off, haha, so I doubt I'd get back to them any time soon.
and yeah, I definitely feel like the mainstream scene has become over-saturated with fanservice (still trying to wrap my head around the fact that they don't mind sexualizing children). what bothers me the most though is that so many people buy into it - there's a difference between enjoying something on a personal level and claiming it as one of the best anime on an objective basis
