You really gotta hate any kind of death metal to think this deserves a 3...
So you're saying someone has to hate death metal in order to think this is good? Right ok...
I don't think anyone's gonna get pissed over this tbh seeing as it doesn't actually make any sense.

getting annoyed at somebody else's opinion of opeth is fuckin stupid agreed (love u plebster)

Boring tommy? Damn. Actually gonna have to agree with jamie here because this record honestly doesn't sound like a death
metal record at all. It's just the vocals really.
|
| |
Yeah aside from the vocals and some riffs this is just prog metal

NEWS JUST IN: THIS IS NOWHERE NEAR OPETH'S BEST AND JAMIE'S RATING IS P MUCH CORRECT.

How people can dig the tracks in between the opener and closer on this record is beyond me.
Blandwater Park.
That said, the title track and leper affinity are among Opeth's best songs.

'shut the fuck up'
Oh, sorry. I have an opinion that differs to yours?
Please enlighten me on how any song on this record is better than When, or April Ethereal?
I've put a case together many times on why this isn't Opeth's best and all you get in return is people saying how it is the best Opeth record, but with no explanation why.

it's the record that brung them to the masses so people will flock towards it, it's only natural. it's fucking solid as hell but agreed not their best, it's like 5th
i'm so happy I didn't discover this album first omg

I get ya, MO. I just get wound up by people that give it the spiel when I doubt they've heard 90s Opeth.
It definitely is very accessible and very well produced, the ideas just get tired during the middle. Dirge for November drags and the same with The Drapery Falls. I'm not big on the Wilson factor either. And that 40000 layers of guitar wall of sound starts to sound regurgitated after a while.

agreed on drapery it's a pretty overrated track, but dirge is so good. what boils my blood is when people listen to their material from here onwards and piss and moan when going back to their first 3 albums about the production, citing it as the main reason their older stuff isn't as good.
it's like wtf the music itself trumps the production hard
|
| |
all opeth sounds the same pretty much, only dig this one (slightly) more to the few that come before because the production is better
like if all opeth albs sounded like this then i prob couldnt even pick a fav musically they all rock the same but production wise this one takes the cake

@MO So true it's unreal, mate. And for MAYH I think the atmosphere and production on that record suits their Death Metal sound much better than the more polished stuff.
Go to bed Lloyd.
