Yea unfortunately some of the lyrics took take a step down starting here, but there's still some really good lines. Famine is also excellent, at least the first half. Sounds silly but it makes me think of a supernatural medieval circus.

I dunno, this sounds like a pretty boring 70s prog rock rip off (as do the next two releases) but that's just me.

And I was one of the few who was actually really excited to see where Opeth would go with the lack of metal elements back when it was announced that they were heading in a more prog direction.

While the next two albums may be in the "boring 70s prog rip off" category, this one is still special. It's a perfect blend of Opeth's original style and 70s prog and metal influences. I don't like it as much as their previous work but it's still very inspired and original.

@Trifolium - aha, I feel you dude - different strokes

@Dominion - oh yeah man, the production and the drumming is sick. It's just really not for me.

Different beast altogether yeah. At least we both know Opeth has done great things before this.

Would love that. Jazz rock

The drumming on Nepenthe is stunning. The subtleties are ridiculous. Axe has been the stand out on all of Opeth's prog rock records

Totally with the "Opeth should go jazz" crowd, Nepenthe is so gorgeous and Axe is the star here and I love it.

Production here is superb, Wilson knocks it out of the park.

Haxprocess is one of their best ever songs, also.
