@Strike
Hmm yeah. Better keep it that way because it would make the av go even further in the wrong direction

Haha isn’t he? I’ve always wondered why he has some albums rated but not others.

I’ve heard the underrated argument about this album many times over the years, so I’ve also given it many chances over the years — and it just doesn’t click, but not for lack of trying. I do fucking love Codex though.
Same deal with AMSP. Just doesn’t seem to click — but I love TLW.

I'm with you there on AMSP Lark.
This on the other hand clicked right away. Still get blown away by Bloom, Codex, Give Up The Ghost, Separator. Even Lotus Flower.

This cover art is horrible though. Yuck.

AMSP hasn't "clicked" for me yet. In total, I've listened to it a good bit of times... I like the atmosphere a lot on DID & other tracks. Daydreaming moves me, Identikit and Ful Stop are exciting, and The Numbers & Present Tense are quality songs. But as a whole it just hasn't "clicked" yet.
I don't think its bad (I thought TKOL was empirically bad when it came out), but I remember thinking when it came out "Ah, this is RH at their most RH yet. Ok."
I think one day it'll click for me like TKOL (which I'm LOVING), but meh.
I always see Trif on the best comment-sections. I dig their taste.

Aww Tb, you're making me blush!
I think the problem with AMSP is in the pacing, it is wayyy off. It needs a quicker paced banger extra somewhere in the middle and going from Witch straight into Daydreaming just doesn't work.
Great to see some love for The Numbers, it's one of my faves there and doesn't get mentioned enough at all.

| |
If you ignore that AMSP's track listing ruins any semblance of dynamism or cohesiveness as an album and just listen to the songs as singles out of context they are (mostly) much better. TKOL is the opposite, the album runs so seamlessly and the duration is so brief it's like a dream.
|
| |
As far as cohesive experiances go this and In Rainbows are the most streamlined works, with AMSP and HTTT being their least so, but both of those latter two have a few of their best singles anyways.

Totally agree man, that's exactly how I feel about them. Cohesion and flow mean so much to me too, so I sadly don't see much room for AMSP to grow on me any time soon...
|
| |
Yeah, I literally do not listen to it as an album. Ever. Certain songs just get heavy rotation from playlists and thats that haha.

Yeah, same here.
I don't know why, but HTTT on the other hand is a five for me, despite the total lack of flow. It's so diverse and does something right apparently, but I've never figured out what.
|
| |
Lol same. The difference I think is that the jarring lack of flow on HTTT is hyper while on AMSP it's like the album drank a bunch of coffee and then overdosed on dramamine. Your brain just fucking zones out eventually and the flow ruins your ability to even appreciate the songs independently of each other.
|
| |
With HTTT at least the energy is shifting so much it doesn't blend together and diminish the quality of the songs on their own.
|
| |
AMSP is all old and scattered stuff so would make sense
Jumped-up demo album, aka best radiohead

@Pots: That might very well be it! And like you said, some of their (There in this case, HA!) best works.
2am here, time to go to bed and dream about some sailboat to the moon or whatever.
|
| |
True, but it didnt need to feel that way. The production is all cohesive enough, the vibe is focused enough, with a few tweaks to the tracklist it could have been a much stronger work. And that's the most irksome part, it strikes me as disingenuine when you see the tracklist in alphabetical order and hear the damn thing...
|
| |
With the knowledge that it's almost all old material combined with the curious "choices" in track listing it comes off as almost a slight
