Y’all complaining about the bass should listen to the analogue remaster
|

Tempting, but could just listen to mbv and it's perfect production instead

Johnny, it seems like your biggest takeaway is lack of "punch" provided by bass? Why do you think Loveless needs it?
|
| |
because he is a beautiful little heathen

“loomer” (best) has that sweet sweet low end imho (if not, uh, “bass”)

some of y'all haven't driven home from a concert with your crush across empty highways at midnight while Loveless plays at a low volume so as to not upset your tinnitus and it shows

Never said it needs more punch - but that mix has always sounded overly treb-heavy to me, and listening with headphones rn I can totally see what Colton means. I feel this sound needs space to spread across a room (or way down low as a tinnitus cushion if you like?) but feels borderline grating if you listen right up close. All that beautiful blurring of layers doesn't have enough to anchor itself in and ends up a little indistinct as such. The mbv tone is much richer imo and perfectly addresses this; I remember spinning that for the first time a while after effectively giving up on Loveless and feeling unexpectedly vindicated in every reservation I'd had about it; had a huge not-you-it's-me complex going on up to that point
That alb's songs also tend to 'go somewhere' as opposed to unpacking the same tones in the same way over and over, which I think takes stronger writing, but like I said I get that this isn't exactly at odds with what most of y'all love about this.
Agreed with sona that Loomer's low end is solid tbh, song stands out for that
