Tbh it's still really fucking weird to me that this is popular among metalheads
Like it's my favorite death metal album ever and all but it just sounds really brutal and not something I assume would be accessible, but at their show in NY a couple weeks back you had a whole host of people of all ages going ape shit for these songs

honestly, the riffs and song writing in this are extremely simple.
the lightning speed drumming and staggered vocals make this sound much more chaotic than it really is

Yeah it's really just the vocals. I mean this was one of the first death metal albums I ever heard, so naturally I thought it was a bit too abrasive when I was in middle school and only having heard nu-metal, thrash and dream theater lol
It took me like another 5 years to realize how amazing this was, but those vocals are still like REALLY fucking intense
I'm happy it's got the acclaim, it's just weird to me is all - like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel and Death popularity make sense but this just sounds wild to me
