the peak has come and gone my friends. people who think humble compares to a single song off gkmc or tpab are delusional tbh :/ don't like it just cuz it's kendrick, the fact that everyone calls him the greatest whenever he says a word is the reason that he has a big enough head to release something like humble and think it'll go over well. my only hope is that this is comparable to like endless by frank ocean which in hindsight also was pretty bad the peak has come and gone my friends. people who think humble compares to a single song off gkmc or tpab are delusional tbh :/ don't like it just cuz it's kendrick, the fact that everyone calls him the greatest whenever he says a word is the reason that he has a big enough head to release something like humble and think it'll go over well. my only hope is that this is comparable to like endless by frank ocean which in hindsight also was pretty bad the peak has come and gone my friends. people who think humble compares to a single song off gkmc or tpab are delusional tbh :/ don't like it just cuz it's kendrick, the fact that everyone calls him the greatest whenever he says a word is the reason that he has a big enough head to release something like humble and think it'll go over well. my only hope is that this is comparable to like endless by frank ocean which in hindsight also was pretty bad the peak has come and gone my friends. people who think humble compares to a single song off gkmc or tpab are delusional tbh :/ don't like it just cuz it's kendrick, the fact that everyone calls him the greatest whenever he says a word is the reason that he has a big enough head to release something like humble and think it'll go over well. my only hope is that this is comparable to like endless by frank ocean which in hindsight also was pretty bad the peak has come and gone my friends. people who think humble compares to a single song off gkmc or tpab are delusional tbh :/ don't like it just cuz it's kendrick, the fact that everyone calls him the greatest whenever he says a word is the reason that he has a big enough head to release something like humble and think it'll go over well. my only hope is that this is comparable to like endless by frank ocean which in hindsight also was pretty bad

Alright 1. Humble is a standalone track that WILL NOT be on the album and 2. Humble is quite obviously a satirical jab at the stereotypical modern hip hop sound/aesthetic, not a serious mission statement for what the new album will sound like. Plus, Kendrick has been calling himself "king kendrick" and the greatest rapper alive etc. since like before gkmc so idk where you've been.

Also, glimpsing through the soundoff page for this was nauseating. I've never spent any time on Pitchfork before, but that's what I imagine it looks like for every bandwagon album ever.

It's satirical so it's good

It's a jab at culture but he says similar things unironically in a ton of other places

I mean it's a good track but c'mon

hate to agree with ALA but he's right satire doesn't equal quality
Part of me is realizing that the true genius of this album actually comes from the contributing musicians and not kendrick himself, his name is just on the cover

tbh it reminds me of backstreet freestyle, totally self-aware but sort of playing to a character / narrative on the album that isn't really completely reflective of him or who is is today

i'm sure it'll make more sense when we get the full context of the album

" I'm really not sure how self-aware Kendrick is "

He's not self aware at all. He acts like this in other songs besides Backseat or Humble and even says shit in real life but of course because he has like one track per album about ironically being self obsessed Humble is perfectly fine amirite

self-dep·re·ca·tion

ˌselfˌdeprəˈkāSH(ə)n/

noun

noun: self-deprecation

modesty about or criticism of oneself.

but it's not like the instrumental itself is supposed to be some sort of satirical jab at boring hiphop beats right? because the instrumental is the worst part

well it seems like everyone's defending this song by saying its satire, which is true, but it's still shit
and the instrumental in backstreet kicks fuckin ass, especially the percussion

It literally says it in the news article.

"man I don't get that impression at all

I'd say most rappers are a lot more self-aware then they put on, at least the ones who make stuff similar to Humble as a career, so idk I surely wouldn't put it past Kendrick.

see now we're trying to convince each other of whether or not it ~sounds good~ not whether it's satirical or self aware or whateverthefuck

i think it bangs. i think in general tpab is either boring or cringy. humble is refreshing
