Opinion poll:
''Opeth's Fredrik Åkesson has played his role, but he really has nothing to add to the group composition-wise. Mikael would probably be benefited from a less technical but more inspired musician.''
This was a friend's complain. Any comments?

Basically correct. Opeth was way better with Peter in the band.
Akesson can play pretty much anything though

I find that really hard to say. I love Heritage so very much. Watershed rules too. So he was involved in a couple of great albums and songs (Eternal Rains) over the years. But I prefer Peter's style in general yeah.

Best line up was Mikael, Mendez, Lopez, Lindgren and Per

The question is how much Lindgren and Akesson contribute to the writting, which is hard to say, because Akerfeldt is the only one mentioned as composer most of the times. Akesson has some amazing solos, his tone is always neat and live he's very reliable. But can he take the band forward and cope with Mikael's centralization.

He definitely doesn't feel as inspired. Being a skilled guitarist doesn't make you a prolific writer.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Axenrot, however, is a stellar replacement for Mendez, imo. His playing is varied and balances well between metal and ''jazz'', so he can support Mikael's thoughts and expand them.

I read an interview a while ago and Mikael talked about Per Wilbergs contributions to Heritage. Mikael wrote everything for him and told him "That's what I came up with. Please make it better."
I feel like this is how it works for most of them. Akesson contributed a few riffs here and there (Strange Brew), but Mikael took them and them his own thing basically.

Yeah he's amazing, Heritage has the best drum performance of their entire back catalogue.

That’s not going to happen.
I’ll tell ya something though, this album is absolutely fucking amazing.
An all round, pure crafted slab of exciting metal.
First 3 Albums, Reveries and Heritage are constantly vying for best but I have to bite the bullet be a pleb and say this is the bands overall best album.

Yeah I've come to the realisation over the years that this Top 3 at least.
I just think Reveries is more consistent, I love every track there as with MAYH.
I always seem to skip Harvest on this one, they could've cut a minute or so off it imo.

One of me favourite Opeth tunes that.

I have the opposite issue with GR, it peaks really high but is a bit inconsistent to me
