I don't think he "doesn't like metal or rock". From what I've seen over the years, he just favors the current state of pop/hip-hop/select indie outfits over general rock/metal genres because he's said a few times in the past that many rock and metal genres are in a really stagnant state as of the last couple of decades. I don't completely agree with him as there are acts out there continuing to push boundaries in those genres, but I can see where he's coming from.

Well he's a well-known fan of Neurosis, so I assume he probably digs Oceanic/Panopticon.

Like I said, it's just his takes can come across really bad or examples he uses. I really don't give a shit whether he dislikes or loves an album. I mean ripped Meshuggah's last album a new asshole but I loved it and just shrugged. Just again, his reason for it doesn't always seem justified with the way he describes it. A lot of times just grasping at straws to try and come up with an explanation.
