Does anyone else think Waste is about addiction (more specifically seems to be drugs/alcohol but could apply to any serious addiction I suppose). To me, it seems blatantly obvious but that’s how music can be sometimes:when it really truly speaks to you, you can’t see how someone else could see it any other way, or “misconstrue” it.

Having struggled with off and on active addiction for the past twenty years (since I was 15), this song really hits me. It has affected my marriage, kids etc. Not to get too personal but since I’m currently struggling and trying to quit/taper, and this song seems to specifically be about letting go, finally quitting for good, “this is the last time”: this song just came at the perfect time for me.

At the same time, it certainly fits that the lyrics could also be about this being the end to Brand New.

You know, the more I listen to this, the more I think it might be my favorite. So many amazing tracks -especially In the Water, Can’t Get it Out, Waste.

I’m tempted to 5 it, but there are some blah tracks. could Never Be Heaven for one. Then the back half sags a bit too much. Desert and 451 are basically filler for me. But I actually really like No Control, and Batter Up is absolutely hauntingly beautiful.

Damn 451 is my favorite on here. Pure energy on that

Over a year later and this is some of the best alt rock that has been released in the past 5-10 years

Funny how subjective it is. Granted, it’s still fairly new for me. Hopefully it grows on me.

For sure, I remember when this released people's favorites were all over the place and that still is mostly the case which is cool (though In The Water seems to be a clear pick usually)

@AgentDeathbat: I’m surprised you gave this a rating that isn’t intended to prove a point like a troll. Honestly, I couldn’t care less. This shits good, what turns the lead singer on is the least of my concern when listening to music. I guess I’m just an insensitive asshole that promotes unethical individuals. Idk...fuck me right.

Given how Lacey's personal life feeds into (or is strongly suggested by) his lyrical persona, which in turn majorly feeds into the tone and style of the music, I can't help but think you seem like a lazy listener. You don't have to dismiss Brand New as a result of all that context, but it's pretty cheap not to engage with it.

nah im not gonna slight you for liking it i just don't feel comfortable with what i know about lacey. hard to separate art from artist when it doesn't have a lasting effect on the scene the band is in. brand new can be replaced.
