in france (and i am less sure but i think also at least NL and CH) the ban in general public areas is not specific to anything religious but a blanket ban against face coverings for concerns of security. how often and how prejudiciously it is enforced though? i don't know. i saw a looooot of very face-covering hijab in places like metz and montauban and it didnt feel like anyone cared
but in france there are also specific bans over religious apparel in state areas like a public school. public is kind of a confusing term for most ppls so i think everyone mixes up the nuances. how often is that enforced? also idk but i do know that one nun was refused state retirement housing because she wouldnt not wear her habit. which i think is fair. secular country = dont wear religious shit in state owned facilities. take off the habit girl just wear pajamas god damn or pay for your own housing if god is that great
