I don't mind some of their studio stuff, but fuck me was their live show dull.

It's honestly kinda fascinating that this band tends to draw either really positive or really negative reception - there's no middle ground.

i was already a fan pre-tmbte and before they started getting everyone's nuts twisted, so no, it's just funny they've been steadily progressing for years and no one dragged down those albums the way this has been dragged

Maybe I worded that a little weirdly, this album was definitely the catalyst for a lot of the positive/negative chatter.

Maybe I'll give it a second try. The first one was painful, but I remember fairly liking Chokehold.

Fair, I wasn't really familiar with them pre-TMBTE release.

I always saw the prevailing negative opinion pre-TMBTE as "they're decent enough, I guess". It was almost surreal watching it intensify in real time

it's an easy punching bag and a great example of why mainstream metal is terrible now, so i get it

With increased popularity comes increased hate so it’s no surprise this blowing up resulted in a proportional increase in negativity towards it.
No one’s going out of their way to shit on bad music nobody knows or cares about.

there's such an intense judgmental air around this release that it feels like even casually liking it will get you yelled at by people who aren't into it like that... and with all the yelling and judgmental anger, people wonder why i'm questioning my taste if this is what speaks to me and stuff like BCNR isn't *shrug*

if you’re secure in your taste in music you have nothing to worry about

it's just giving me flashbacks to 14-15 year old me getting screamed at, called the six-letter F word that means gay, and kicked out of communities where we were united in a common enemy because i still liked bands that they viewed as "adjacent" to that enemy for some reason. the target's changed, but the outcome feels scarily similar
