in what way

I'm refering to the "god is dead" part of never be heaven. And how is batter up not psychedelia, it's covered in subtle synthetic layers.

adding a few subtle effects here and there doesnt = psych...i was about to ask if youve even heard any psych, but looking at your profile you certainly have, so im surprised youre making this argument.

I mean psychedelia isn't the only label I give the album, but it's definitely in there. Esp Lit Me Up, which to me is the most important song in the album. Maybe dreamy/ambient is a better word for the effects I'm hearing?

we started with psycho drama

Enjoying an album when you’re tripping on acid does not make said music psychedelic.

Lmao anyway, music inspired by the use of psychedelic drugs is exactly what psychedelic means. I'm saying that I think Jesse was tripping when he wrote this, from my perception.

There's no particular sound truly that makes music psychedelic, it just is.

"To understand what makes music stylistically "psychedelic," one should consider three fundamental effects of LSD: dechronicization, depersonalization, and dynamization. Dechronicization permits the drug user to move outside of conventional perceptions of time. Depersonalization allows the user to lose the self and gain an "awareness of undifferentiated unity." Dynamization, as [Timothy] Leary wrote, makes everything from floors to lamps seem to bend, as "familiar forms dissolve into moving, dancing structures" ... Music that is truly "psychedelic" mimics these three effects."

Idk about you guys, but I feel this album totally fits this description. It doesn't have the exotic instruments or eastern modes that traditional psychedelia does, but everything else from drones, to strange timings and song structures, to elaborate studio effects, to unique electronic instruments, to surreal lyrics, are all used extensively.

Very close for sure, I just like the finality of Batter Up. Feels like a real send off to the band. Brand New generally have good closers.
