Jane Doe took me like 3 tries to really "get". Once it hits tho, its like a building collapsing on your head

Same, I remember listening to Jane Doe and thinking it was a hot pile of dogshit, then this dropped and was getting hyped so I checked it out and that was my “oh fuck I get it now” moment
Had the same exact experience lol.

Been forever since I've given the pre Jane Doe/Dusk a listen though so it could change on a revisit. Band just doesn't miss!

yeah petitioning that low is criminal! maybe their best pure riffs.

WFCC is 1 agreed

Album Rating: 3.5
Petitioning has The Saddest Day which is in all timer of a verge track but the rest kinda wore off me a lil bit
could do with a once thru again, WFCC and No Heroes tend to get underestimated (vs this album and beyond, especially)

4. The Dusk in Us
5. Axe to Fall

tfw when your worst album is something most metalcore bands would have killed to have been talented enough to make

Hot take but The Saddest Day isn’t even the second best song on petitioning, Dead and Farewell Note to This City are where it’s at. There’s an alternate universe where their next record is emo as fuck like those two tracks, then they immediately split up like every late 90’s/early 2000’s screamo band, then they get together in the last few years to blow our nips off, again like every fucking screamo band it seems lately

Nah, its the closest thing they done to a mid album. It is being single handedly carried by Grim Heart / Black Rose tbh. The rest of it is just fine but seems they lost some magic here.

I love that they made kind of a straight up hardcore record by Converge standards. I'm very biased tho because that is historically my shit. Album just kicks my ass in the best way

Ima be real Versus is so paint by the numbers for them that I kind of forget it exists, and Grim Heart Black Rose could get to the fucking point a little quicker, but the opening four tracks are a fucking onslaught, Plagues is one of the most stupidly cool things ever written, and Lonewolves and Trophy Scars feature some of Jacob’s best vocals…
and
“I AM VENGEANCE
BUILT FOR
WAAAAAAAAARRRR!!!!!” is one of the hardest lines ever
Orphaned also has some really great lyrics.
