There's still the issue that a lot of St. Anger songs are longer than they should be. I don't know who's bright idea it was to make sure every song on that album was longer than five minutes.

^ true. But that's also a problem with all of Metallica's post-Black Album records... so much unnecessary bloat, even on the albums I enjoy like Death Magnetic and Hardwired. I've said this before, but you could cut out at least 4 songs on Hardwired's second disc (Spit Out the Bone is the only big standout there) and just stick with a solid 7-8 song tracklist

I honestly don't know why they decided to make that a double album. It would be super solid otherwise.

honestly i like st anger. might be a little ironically lol. the production is horrible and james sounds pretty bad but there are so many sick heavy riffs on there. but yes way too long. there's a great album in there somewhere, i appreciate the attempt.

Ah, The Thing That Should Not Be vs The Album That Could Have Been - seems to be the story of Metallica post-Load.

Unpopular opinion: this album is better than Defeated Sanity's last one

This is the perfect album to be compared with a brutal technical death one

@notrap that's actually a pretty popular opinion

There is a very vocal minority of us who sing defeated sanity's praises, but if you look at the number of ratings and average rating, they both say this is better.

And even outside of sput the general consensus is the melattica are the kings of metal

The KINGS ARE DEFEATED SANITY

Everyone who has been listening to metal since 1970 knows that

Kinda rubs me the wrong way when people call Metallica the kings of metal. I understand, massively influential, easily the most popular metal band of all time, but god damn they haven’t made anything worthy of that title in damn near 40 years

I said that facetiously wildcard

Theyre easily one of the most influential and popular metal bands of all time.

I guess I understand to a degree when people say their favorite band or favorite metal band is metallica. They were excellent in the 80s. But my personal experience with them was as a gateway band. Not even a top 5 thrash band all-time once the depths of the genre have been plunged imo. But, that's just my opinion. A dissenting opinion from the masses who do claim that metallica are the goats of metal

Number 1 thrash band for me is pretty easily voivod. Coroner is a safe but distant #2. Pretty big drop-off after that
