I don’t mind them being unintelligible at all, I love Jane Doe lol

I just really don’t like the way that they actually sound here and on Axe to Fall

I actually enjoy how roughly produced this is as a whole and the songs feel fairly stylistically distinct to this album for me, personally. They always bring at least a little variation with every release, imo.

I LOVE how fucking disgusting Jacob's voice is on all their records. Honestly his technique is kinda bad, you can tell it hurts him and the bark has just gotten lower over the years, probably more out of age and necessity than intention but it's always so brutal. It's never bothered me. The sheer abrasiveness of his sound makes him one of my all time favs. And yeah, he's definitely dialed it back in recent years.

I’ve read that his throat will sometimes bleed after shows.

That’s not me going “wow that’s fuckin punk dude”, that’s me knowing he has terrible technique but really appreciating that he’s willing to go that far for his art.

I hope they play some PTES material in their upcoming shows if any of the recent t-shirts and hoodies are an indicator of it.

Sometimes I wonder why Jacob doesn't just take some vocal lessons or something. He could keep the viciousness but learn to do it in a sustainable way that doesn't hurt him. What's there to lose?

Not sure if it would have been the same if he took lessons, his scream is so specific to him. I'm happy it sounds the way it does. Don't want him to sound like Keith Buckley or something.

His sound has slowly been morphing over the years as his vocal cords have taken damage anyways. Compare his pre-Jane Doe screams to "I Won't Let You Go". It's not like it isn't changing significantly over time without safe technique.

Don't get me wrong I love his dirty vocals but IDK I'd just be happy to know he can do it sustainably.

I wouldn’t bet on it vlac

They might bust out something special for yall since they never go down there but every time I’ve seen them like half the set is axe to fall tracks, a lot of AWLWLB, a few off Dusk, a few off Jane, and a couple off YFM. You’ll be lucky to hear anything off this or pre-Jane.

They surprisingly played a decent amount of When Forever Comes Crashing when I saw all em but that was like 12 years ago and I didn't stay for the whole show. Sadly it was my only time seeing them and they played in a church basement in Philly. The venue was scorching hot and only had fans running, no AC. I was getting lightheaded and had to bounce after like 14 tracks but they supposedly played about 20-24 tracks. Shame but I still ended up having fun and tickets were dirt cheap at only 10 bucks at the door, no tax either.

He’s been doing it since the 90s and it’s now 2024 idk what to call that if not sustainable

@Wildcardbitchesss oh well, I have always had hopes they would play The Saddest Day since that is my favorite Converge song, however, I'll settle for anything at this point. I've never seen them live and I bet, regardless of the playlist, it will still be a hell of a show.

The Saddest Day is so sick. lol One of the only metalcore songs that I can think of where the climax of the song is the riff getting faster. But I’ve never seen them live either. Definitely a bucket list band. I need at least a couple of sets from them before I leave this world.

The Saddest Day is one of the few pre-jane songs they still bust out semi frequently

I’ve seen them five times and they haven’t played it : [

I would actually bet that they might bust it out since it’s an area they NEVER tour. Just wouldn’t bet on them playing anything else pre Jane

Underrated album. Better than their last few albums.

nerfed a lot of my 'verge ranks during a general mass cull but I could be tempted to reverse this one, as it held up pretty well last time I checked

much prefer this to their last couple and it likely usurps the comparatively glossy and overlong AWLWLB these days

+ it's a better album experience than the occasionally awesome but somewhat hodgepodge nature of PTES

Hmmmm

Idk if I'd say better than either of those mentioned but I get it

I do think this actually does the cacophonous bits EXTREMELY well and ofc

Grim Heart/Black Rose is a pleasantly wonky masterpiece
