“infinite granite was irredeemable trash”
Definitely their worst album, but it’s insane to call it irredeemable trash. It isn’t Maroon 5 or Creed, dude. To each their own and I get not liking an album, but it’s objectively still pretty well written and made.
Probably a 3.5 for me personally, but Shellstar is a hard 5 track.

“I'm in genuine shock this has maintained a 4.4 average with almost 400 votes.
Pleasant shock, if such a thing exists.“
Well deserved too.

Yup, no doubt.

Going back through thier discography and I think this is their best followed by new Bermuda. I was late to the party with this band so sunbather wasnt as impactful for me I think

Infinite Granite is just mostly to me boring outside of shellstar. Shellstar is an awesome song though

Yeah I can’t make it through IG these days. Its good in small doses but that album is a slog to listen to front to back

Great Mass of Color slaps though.
Also, I’ve noticed ppl have NB as their best DH album who were introduced to the band during that album’s release time period or later. Sunbather was an emotional lightning bolt of an album to me because I caught ear of it around it’s release I guess?

Fantano isn’t good for rock and metal that’s for sure. I stopped caring what he had to say a long time ago. I do like to watch his takes on some things but I was just kinda annoyed with this one. Like okay you feel strongly about it but you spent more time talking about their history than you did reviewing the album. Just felt kinda churned out just to put out there to me. With the amount of time it took him to release the review I kinda expected him to 10 it and talk about it in detail. Was a bit anticlimactic. But nah he doesn’t really mean a whole lot to me and he’s not much a fan of the band really. He did something similar with Brat last year. Like I wasn’t even a fan of that album. Definitely in the 3/5 area. And his review sounded like he was gonna give it like a 6 or 7 and then slaps a 10 on it at the end. I was like… in no way did this even sound like you were reviewing a classic. Felt really weird.

Their worst is probably OCHL but NB is close behind. I still like them both but there are bizarre choices in both albums, especially OCHL. Infinite Granite is about as good as Sunbather and this imo.

OCHL is very good but I know I'm in the minority here.
But this one is better and Amethyst is incredible

I understand the OCHL hate, but I do not agree with it. Love that one

[2] OCHL took some pretty huge risks and I respect it immensely for that
Did those risks pay off? Arguable.

There’s three amazing songs on OCHL… and that’s it. Wasting a Chelsea Wolfe feature is borderline unforgivable

Yeah Night People is probably their worst song.
You Without End is polarizing to say the least but I low-key dig it. Everything else ranges from good to great. Closer is kinda weak too honestly.

Anyone else get serious chills for basically the entirety of Revelator or is it just me?
