I agree with that, but the sentiment kinda gets thrown out the window when you're talking about new music and actively making the choice to delve into someone known to be a monster.

Even still, I think it's possible to enjoy that art or at least be challenged by it, but you cannot pretend like the context the art was forged from does not exist.

Or maybe it's possible we have finally discovered the world's first apolitical, contextless album. Idk, I'm just a little guy.

I think that's there but again the individual can engage with the context as much as they want when listening. I've listened to this album three times and it sounds so similar to past output that becomes the context for me, I'm just reminded of his sound, but then I'm not drilling down into the lyrics in a major way or reading any interviews from the bloke.

That angle goes down a lot smoother if we're dealing with folks like The Black Keys or Imagine Dragons whose lyrics are listless, anonymous gestures at vibes and not someone who has been very provocative and public about their ideas and character.

To put it another way, there's just simply no way someone can check Manson out in 2024 without knowing the details of his transgressions because he himself is making these events so front and center of his work.

I suppose someone could compartmentalize his new music from his actions and character, but that strikes me as such a boring and small way to approach the world. My issue with the review at hand and some of the attitudes towards the little pro-album sentiment in this thread that is sincere, is acting like that should be assumed way to approach such an obviously controversial release. People are going to have reactions to seeing his name, and they are right to feel so. It strikes me as disingenuous to handwave that away.

"I can separate the art from the artist if the art is actually worth it, and nothing from a 55-year-old Manson is going to meet that criteria. we aren't exactly talking about prime Brand New here."

Took the words out of my mouth.

26 pages for this thread about this washed up goon? Meanwhile the new Kendrick doesn't even have a review yet, if we need more examples of how out of touch this website is in 2024

the Depp vs. Heard trial was also analyzed in-depth, and we wondered how to optimize hand & ball techniques in various sports

pretty unique for a website in 2024 huh?

To be fair, some of those pages actually were about Chelsea.
Let’s try to keep it on topic guys. Best CW album?

Pain is Beauty is her best because, to my knowledge, it's the only one to appear on MTV's Catfish series

I think I started this CW discussion by saying I think She Reaches Out is her new best, as much as I love all her 2010s albums I stand by that

Yeah I’m with tuna, and I doubt it she seems like she’s more interested in witchcraft and shit like that. But odal that’s a very solid reason tbh

All the CW albums are great-to-amazing, except for Birth of Violence, I just can’t get into that one, dunno why. If each of her albums is a sport, BoV must be curling.

Birth of Violence is a puzzling one. I like it, but it gets lost in the shuffle and can't say I have ever felt a desire to return to it

When your worst album is still pretty solid you know you’ve done something right.

Mother Road, t/t, and Dirt Universe are all really fucking good imo
