A whole genre and style of performance was made possible after the introduction of sufficiently powerful microphones (crooners) that simply was not possible prior. Butkuiss' parallel with amplification is a valid one that's crossed my mind a few times recently, but the absolute worst double standard (which fwiw I don't think applies to reefa) is when you see creative use of autotune being trashed by the same people who lap up core acts that scream through a zillion layers of of distortion to sound remotely visceral. far better to lean into a specifically studio-centric sound than to drastically overcompensate in your shitty facsimile of a live experience
