Nope. Tried this twice. I’m one of those that just “doesn’t get it”. What am I doing wrong?

Have you listened to her other records? I first heard of her when Abyss dropped and it took me until probably Hiss Spun came out to “get it”

Or maybe you just don’t like her music. nbd

I like her doomy acoustic rock stuff from the early days more so far... maybe you would too teamster?

No industrial to be found. Still darkwave / gothic leaning tho

Getting industrial-pilled on Abyss was a major rly moment for CW fr, but she wears it much better here

your issue is probably that you're seeking something with a pulse

I love all of it tbh, honestly I think the Roadburn performances are the best of her early stuff. Those versions of Movie Screen and Halfsleeper are MASSIVE

'3 is the ultimate "I don't like this, but I respect it" rating'

I do actually like this to some extent. The second half is pretty well constructed on the whole. It's 'good' music overall due to perceived inconsistencies, where the highs (save one track) aren't enough to elevate it beyond that tier. I'm still not all that keen on the opening triumvirate or the closer

I may respect an artist's intention and still slap a sub-3 score on it (potentially less) because the result isn't something I enjoy

the whole song is just gorgeous but the “let me fly” bit around 2:45 when the get pianos kick up a notch and it feels like the song collapses into itself… I don’t even know how to describe it. It’s just perfect.

She was amazing last night but I gotta say I have mixed feelings about the setlist aside from this record. Nothing from Abyss had me sad, always thought House of Metal was one of the weaker tracks from Pain Is Beauty, and of all the great tunes on Apokalypsis she played Moses, which honestly might be my least favorite song from that record. But the absolute worst thing was that there was some kind of emergency on the other side of the venue, idk if it was medical or if there was a fight or something, but it happened right in the middle of Place in the Sun and the lights came up and they went right into Dusk after it got resolved without finishing that track. That was super disappointing.

Feral Love had an extra intensity to it live, I’ve said it before but Jess is such a phenomenal drummer and it really showed there. Eyes Like Nightshade is still my least favorite track on the record but it’s absolutely entrancing in a live setting, and The Liminal acoustic was great, she fucked up the lyrics and admitted it mid song and just kept going which was actually really funny. Flatlands was about as gorgeous as I expected. But my god They’ll Clap When You’re Gone was absolutely the highlight of the night. Incredible performance.

All in all really solid show, I think it’s really cool that she played the entire record, but I hope she tours again soon with a more varied setlist and doesn’t get cut off in the middle of the best song of the night : /

Yeah, the incident with the lights turned on must have sucked big time. But I'm happy "They’ll Clap When You’re Gone" compensated for it, what a song to be heard live! She'll never come my lands, so I'll need to go her way (hopefully).

When I heard the intro start for Dusk, I really don’t think I’ve felt that disappointed at show in a very long time. I’m sure they have a time limit, and I know she has more dates that they need to get to, like maybe they had to hit the road immediately after the show. But I really just don’t understand why they didn’t restart the song, or hell, even try to pick up where they left off. If I remember right it was right around the “safe in this body, safe in this heart” part, so like a minute and a half into the track?

But yes, They’ll Clap When You’re Gone was already one of my favorite songs of hers and it was just beautiful to see it live.

And Dewi I know we both like Unseen World a lot, the track is absolutely massive live. I hope you get the chance to see her perform : ]
