Wall of Eyes is probably my favourite Smile album, but I think I prefer Nigel's production on ALFAA. Nothing on WoE or Cutouts is quite as jaw-droppingly beautiful as Free in the Knowledge, Speech Bubbles or Open the Floodgates.

ALFAA is easily the best Smile mainly because there're not nearly as many songs as stunning as Free in the Knowledge, Speech Bubbles, Open the Floodgates, Pana-vision, The Smoke, and Skrting on the Surface on here or Cutouts.
I think Cutouts is slightly superior to this, has more oomph and feels more complete. But their lack of any more fantastic ballads like the ones on ALFAA is too bad, hopefully they'll bring that back next.

There isn't much in it for me, I think WoE is more cohesive and tighter as an album experience, the flow is stronger and there's more tonal consistency.
I love ALFAA in the same way I do Hail to the Thief. Lots of disparate sounds, everything makes it onto the album, it's more a collection of great-to-fantastic songs than a single, cohesive statement.
If Cutouts was released with WOE as a single album (maybe omitting a song or two), it would have the same 'grab bag' quality as ALFAA.

I bought this on vinyl, it is just such a beauty.
Would’ve been album of the year if not for Beth and the Cure

Thom and Jonny do dread inducing bossa nova so well (Present Tense, Wall of Eyes, Bodies Laughing), I hope they keep doing it

I tell you what Offcuts is a bloody blinder as well.

I just listened to Outcuts this morning, better than Eye of Walls imo (minus Instant Psalm, which is probably their worst track yet)

Blimey Gabba.
I think Instant Psalm is a beauty. One of their best.
At this precise moment in time I would take Wall of Eyes and Outcuts over Kid A and Amnesiac.
They really have done the business here.

I think as a full listen I like Cutouts more than this.

I must say it has grown massively on me.

I think this is more of a cohesive listen then Cutouts, which really feels like an 'everything else' album. Not inferior in quality, just more of a grab bag.
Never thought we'd get 2 Smile albums in 2024.

I surprised how good this is, given how dull Cutouts is.
