I don't think I know any other albums that sound like this - it's definitely its own unique thing. The great songs on it are truly great and it is a shame we never got more like it. I could be wrong but I think Randy was in Nate's camp regarding sound direction, especially because he was in The Sound of Animals Fighting. He dipped in 2015 prior to the band breaking up in 2016 though so I have no clue what happened post Oblivion.

This album was the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty album of it's respective genre at the time.

Yeah this is not comparable in anyway to Glassjaw, if anything there's more cuts off of the WIITB era that sound closer to Glassjaw in terms of the less Pop Punk-y cuts off of that. The best way to describe SHTS I'd say is like when you listen to a mainstream Alternative album from the 2000s and hear the band to a weird little guitar lick/FX type of thing for like 10 seconds and you go like "huh this album is just okay but man if they were to do THAT more often then this would be great", SHTS then comes up and just goes like "yeah we'll just do THAT weird little thing for the whole album, even on the catchy choruses". It's like a weird amalgamation of 2000s Alt Rock and early/mid 90s Post-Hardcore that just perfectly fits in the goldilocks zone of experimentation and accessibility.
It's why I find it funny when the WIITB fans complain about this sounding "too weird" or "just some buttrock". My dudes you don't know shit about how deep both of those depths go to.

This album is timeless imo (so far). I’ve been listening to it since it came out, still impresses the hell outta me with each listen.
I agree with you guys as well. I think the creativity and writing is what cements this as a classic (along with Nate’s vocals)

"miro" is still great--goes so many places chords-wise

I thought that the self titled EP was probably the best combination of mixing the WIITB and SHTS sound and I sorta think that Back To Oblivion suggested that the band's power dynamic might've been in the reverse
This is one of the albums of all time

The end of Hopeless Host is the best post hardcore moment of the past 20+ years (slightly above Thrice’s ‘For Miles’)
Both moments are peak in the whole genre imo. They were straight up in the bag when writing those sections

I cannot get enough of Insomniatic Meat, especially the ending. Still, the whole album is great.

Same but I also like their two unreleased albums, World Of Violence and Phantasma.
I think the band should stay broken up if they’re not willing to release that last album, I’m kinda over their whole ‘let’s get back together just to play What It Is To Burn again’

"what's the cream of the crop on here boys?"
Ink, Reduced to Teeth, Brother Bleed Brother, Ravenous, Piece of Mind
I could list the whole album tbh. This thing does not have a single weak link.
