I like this album but its not sticking entirely with me. It reminds me a lot of Eternal Kingdom where it follows on from a behmoth of a record (SATH, ADTF). Still amazing quality and top shelf material but feels a little flat considering what came before. Either way this band is on top of the genre

I have to let this just repeat for awhile and let it fully sink in.

It's weird. I've heard it again today and while I feel it's really good, I don't remember anything of it after it's done (aside the two tracks with features). So dense.

Yeah ngl I haven't felt compelled to return to this at all since it dropped. Still have the odd track from their other records on the go on shuffle though

I listened to this loads on release, but admittedly I'm in the same boat over here - haven't revisited much since and it feels like I must begrudgingly accept some of these takes.

In isolation this is such an excellent album, yet it does pale somewhat to their previous peaks in the sense it doesn't have a ton of memorable individuality to separate it from the others. Execution / consistency-wise this is almost undoubtedly better than say... Eternal Kingdom, but EK has personality in abundance, a quirkiness that stands out - so even though there are blemishes it's memorable and the peaks make it worth returning to.

A classic example of being judged unfairly due to their own reputation perhaps? My expectations were always likely to be unreasonable.

Thats what i think Demon the problem is they have set such a high bar. The records still bloody brilliant but there is no standout track that sticks out.

It seems crazy to me that this maybe (probably?) isn't even in my top 5 of the year anymore.

checks notes...

Looks like it could be in the 6th-8th range, so this assumption was correct

I‘ve never really stopped listening to this, I might like it more than ADTF tbh.

A good album that pales in comparison to Somewhere Along the Highway, Mariner, Salvation and Vertikal.

That said, this is still better than 99% of albums released.
