Tbh Close to a World Below has little to nothing to do with this

Well, they didn't insinuate it did, just that it, like this, inspired stuff like the last two Ulc albs.

"Well, they didn't insinuate it did, just that it, like this, inspired stuff like the last two Ulc albs." yah that's more or less what i meant. this is no doubt groundbreaking and a lot of this is really good, but i def get more of that haunting atmosphere out of say, most recent ulcerate releases

Ulcerate's post-EiF stuff is more heavily influenced by Deathspell Omega than it is Immolation so that's probably why

i call a wash, destroyer’s is essentially an Isis-‘fied spiritual successor to Here/after

took me a while to decode but I'm there
Destroyers does post-metal a fair bit aye, as does Stare. I mean ALL Ulcerate does to an extent but I certainly feel such leanings on those two in particular

I like this because there are spaces in the music. A lot of post-metal adjacents use a consistent wall of sound that can be exhausting to fragile souls.

yeah, the wall-of-sound thing can be fatiguing, especially with a lot of modern (brick-walled to shit) production
the solution is to abandon ship and listen to classic actual post-metal instead

But that would just mean more riffs, wouldn't it? Chuck had to ruin the one refuge we had to escape them.

touché, but does the classical riff ahrd m/ and what have you now, DOES IT?!
|

we're gonna run out of riffs eventually
one day we all must embrace the noize

Mussorgski, Mahler, Prokofiev et al go pretty hard. Then you have the more urban choices like Wagner, Bach or Chopin. Holst brings some mean riffs, but might be too mainstream for your tastes. Modern for disso etc.
Production is always on point and the live shows are pretty intense.
