Days of Future Past is pretty forgettable and The Parchment has good leads but the actual structure of the song is almost comically barebones for being an epic. Calling this "prog" in any way is laughable.
"If anything is going on here is Maiden improving on those writing habits, actually."
There is nothing as good as Lord of Light or The Talisman on this album. It's just bland insipid lethargy all around.

weird to hate on this THAT much and then defend the Final Frontier when Maiden has been sounding the same for almost 20 years now
If anything the production is worse than we're used to, but that's it

"weird to hate on this THAT much and then defend the Final Frontier when Maiden has been sounding the same for almost 20 years now"
I'm not defending Final Frontier at all. All the albums post Brave New World have large quality control issues. The difference was before there were at least 2-4 songs that were good to excellent. Not so here. Dull vocal melodies (even by reunion-era Bruce standards), uninspired phoned-in riffs across the board, shallow composition.

Lol at this dude expecting 65 year old dudes to change the riff game
Of course it’s going to be phoned in. They have nothing left to prove and no one left to impress. Phoned in maiden is still great

Exactly. What do you expect from 65 year old metal veterans on their 17th studio album. They've done it all before. To come up with this album quality this late in a career is extraordinary really. No-one else has done it or probably could it. What on earth would be better than this from Harris & co.

They had nothing left to prove in 2000, let alone 2020 lol

i reiterate my point that you either haven't listened enough, or you're first impressions are causing a lingering bias against it and on some level you don't want to like, like now you're in a position to justify not liking it to yourself, especially when you talk up songs that i consider more boring, the talisman, its alright...its nothing more special than songs on here, i implore you to re calibrate with this one, start again, give it a few spins, with an aim to wanting to like it, i mean why wouldn't you, we all prefer to like things rather than dislike, if you really fully don't like it after that then i really will be surprised.

You are literally high if you think any of the songs on this album are better than that one.

"Quitting? Hanging it up?"
They're Iron fucking Maiden. They'll never quit.
And you and I both know half of the bands in your top shelf wouldn't even exist without them.
Stupid attitude you're having here Cas, honestly.

"It's a grower" my ass. Album still sucked after my 6th listen. I want you guys to really listen to one of their classic albums, and then this right afterward. You are fucking lying to yourself if you think this is on par with their classic output. Senjutsu is the sound of a band who has absolutely nothing left to say.

"And you and I both know half of the bands in your top shelf wouldn't even exist without them."
They wouldn't have existed without '80s Maiden, not fucking '00s/'10s Maiden. When people remember Maiden, years from now, they'll still remember them for their '80s material. At most, the best received "new" album will always be Brave New World.
"Lol at this dude expecting 65 year old dudes to change the riff game"
Every member of Satan, Russ Tippins and Steve Ramsey especially, have managed to stay fresh and write great material for a long time and they've been in the scene since 1979. Same with Holocaust. There's no excuse.
"Yeah a band that still fills stadiums and sells so many records will hang it up because some nerd in a forgotten music site says so lmao"
I'm not expecting them too. That doesn't mean they're not creatively stagnant.

It is growing but I also agree with it obviously not being on par with their classics. Not even wth their 2000s masterpieces AMOLAD and BNW. It is still a very enjoyable album.
Days of Future Past more and more becomes my favorite track on here and one I really can't wait to hear live on their next tour...
