I feel like when people talk about how exceptional a singer is technically it's a cover for the fact that they don't sound good or write good melodies.

That's quite a good point

often people don't have the same ideas about what "good technique" means too

Works for guitar players too.

"He's so technically gifted."

Yeah but he can't write a fucking riff to save his life.

@Feather

I agree. That's quite the hot take. It's almost the only one I really love on this thing.

if you like the vocals here I don't see how you wouldn't love the back catalog.

Lyrics in Reverie really make me think it's my favorite one here. This part is sooooo good.

"You had your big dreams and planted a seed

You wanted a flower, but turned out a weed

My petals will curl and fall to the ground

You’ll whisper my name and you’ll spread me around

On the wings of the wind, to the end of the earth

My legend will grow as my story gives birth

To a new generation of violent offenders

Who worship my memory

Hyperbolize my splendor"

Little Snakes is really the only song that doesn't work for me. But man, the rest is sooo good.

For now for me it's

Top tier: All Hands, Soliloquy

Good: Migrant Mother, Reverie, the interludes

Mixed: Gardenias, From The Sky, Little Snakes

Not feeling it: Canary, The Fireside, Rivet,

5/5: All Hands, Rivet

4.5/5: The Canary, The Migrant Mother, From the Sky

4/5: The Fireside, Soliloquy

3.5/5: Reverie, Gardenias

3/5: Little Snakes, the interludes

hmm when I think about it this album is a bit front-heavy except for Rivet. But I truly don't think there's a bad song here.

"The machine gun verse in The Fireside. Holy crap!"

honestly that might be my least favorite part of the album, Rody loses control of his voice and it's just grating. should've screamed it
