Duality is such a meh song. I get why people like it as a single and other than Vermillion pt 1 it’s one of the only listenable songs on that album but I’d take the whole S/T, a couple from Iowa, and some of these songs over it.

danger - keep away is one of my favorite tracks there

vol 3 is just unlistenable because of the mastering. a bit jealous of anyone who doesn't notice it
vermilion pt. 2 escapes its grasp though

Vol 3 is my favorite and Duality is their best single imo — and actually one of my favorite Knot songs.

The mastering, corey’s fried vocals, and the songwriting are all bad. Take a song like Opium, Mick just wanted to prove he could play something other than drop tuned riffs but the chromatic motif sounds like shit. I was pretty young at the time and even still I thought pulse of the maggots was ridiculously embarrassing

the last two vol 3 songs are possibly the best two

Hot take but I think Vol 3 is their 2nd worst one outside of All Hope is Gone

Corey's fried vocals kill a huge portion of why I don't find it enjoyable.

I think he sounds loads better here than on the past two records

Yeah he sounds revitalized. Part of it is production. Ross Robinson takes these old low headroom preamps and has guys scream into them to generate preamp distortion. Then he layers you over and over. But that method, while helpful, still wouldn’t have fixed Vol 3 where Corey really wasn’t generating much of his own distortion. I don’t know what they did on this album, but whatever it is sounds good.

Hmm maybe I'll have to give those songs another shot and see if they grow on me. Then Vol. 3 will be the best Knot record even more definitively.
I always liked the vocals on Vol. 3, I like hearing the pitch through the scream (but I know that's a personal preference that's just generally how I prefer screams), and I don't think they really sound "weak" like some people say. .5 is his worst performance vocally IMO. This is a huge improvement in the vocal department, as the Birth of the Cruel chorus clearly shows.
